Discussion for everything DW, old and new.

'Waters of Mars' will be shown on BBC1 Sunday, 15th November at 7pm. YAY! :-D

Link says:

If you're NEW to Dr. Who and want to get into the series from the "start" read the following.

The BEST way/order to watch Dr. Who and it's respective tie-ins, so as to avoid all spoilers and such. Additionally almost ALL of this, with the exception of radio plays, Season 5, a few specials, and Sarah Jane Adventures, are available on Instant Streaming through Netflix. What isn't available through instant can most likely be rented on DVD through Netflix.

Dr. Who Season 1 (New Series) & Special
Dr. Who Season 2 & Special
Torchwood Season 1
Sarah Jane Adventures - 60 Minute Special (AKA Episode 1 of Season 1)
Dr. Who Season 3
Sarah Jane Adventures Season 1
Dr. Who Season 3's Special
Torchwood Season 2
Dr. Who Season 4
Sarah Jane Adventures Season 2
Dr. Who Season 4 Special #1
Torchwood Radio Plays
Torchwood: Children of Earth (AKA Series 3)
Dr. Who Season 4 Special #2
Sarah Jane Adventures Season 3
Dr. Who Season 4 Special #3 & #4
Dr. Who Season 5

That, for the most part, breaks down the series in a chronological airing order. But, really it doesn't matter too much aside from a few key things and if you want it simplified even more...

- Season 1 & 2 of Dr. Who so you know what Torchwood is and who Sarah Jane is.
- Then finish Torchwood Season 2 and at least the first Season before you watch the last episode of Season 4 as it contains MAJOR spoilers for Torchwood.
- Then make sure you watch Sarah Jane Season 3 as well as the rest of Torchwood before you watch the last 2 Season 4 specials, as those also contain spoilers for Torchwood and SJA.

They should start to go with a more serious tone, maybe then I'd still watch it.

The scarier they are, the more memorable they are, e.g:
-Robots Of Death (those dang robots scared me shitless when I was 8)

-Curse Of Fenric (*sits in a corner, rocking back and forth* Nnnnnnnnever go in the water....never again....)

-Spearhead From Space (Thank you "Rose" for showing as how laughable Autons can be)

-Image Of Fendahl (Holy shit, this is THE most scariest thing I ever saw on television as a kid)

New ones should be less like:

-The Happiness Patrol (What's this? A giant Bertie Bassett is going to drown me unless I act all happy?)

-The End Of The World (That face is just impossible in so many ways...)

-Love & Monsters (OH COME ON, IT'S FUCKING PETER KAY FFS!!)

Also, contrary to popular belief, Russel T. Davies isn't that great.

lol I agree, I mean if they go 'Delta and the Bannermen' again then I'm leaving :teehee: although the new series with Matt Smith looks to be going in the right direction :-)

Torchwood returns:

http://www.denofgeek.com/television/503 ... eries.html

Really enjoying Matt Smith and Series 5, next episode is The Lodger , airing Saturday 12th June, 6:45pm.

The Doctor investigates a mysterious staircase that everyone goes up and nobody comes down.

Looks good, oh and Amy Pond....

My friend got me hooked on Dr.Who..only been watching from the 2005 kick start..

I am currently in Series 4..I stopped to watch Torchwood Series 1 & 2 so I wouldn't miss a step chronologically.

I am really nervous about Series 5, because David Tennant is so good as the Doctor..

I was excited to hear Torchwood is getting another series / season..I know a lot of people don't like the show but I really liked it.

.....And I hate Donna Noble soooo much.

You're a terrible person, she's the best companion of the new series.

Additionally, I like how everyone always goes out of their way to watch Torchwood before finishing Season 4 of Dr. Who, but NOBODY watches Sarah Jane Adventures Season 1. :[

Sarah Jane Adventures is actually really cool, and merges with the Dr. Who universe better than Torchwood does.

It's not easy finding things related to the Dr.Who series here in Canada..Dr.Who is somewhat simple to find but extremely expensive, I managed to track down Torchwood but the Sarah Jane Adventures are I haven't been able to find.

I'd say far as companions go (from what I have seen) it goes

1. Martha
2. Rose
3. Donna

There's no shame in torrenting Sarah Jane Adventures. I know they make the American DVDs over here, but they're no where near advertised in comparison to Dr. Who and Torchwood. I watch most of this shit through Netflix rentals.

Watched the first 3 episodes of Season 5. Matt Smith is pretty awesome. Everybody who cries about Matt Smith is most likely a "new" Doctor Who fan who isn't used to the concept of the Doctors changing.

Doctor Who - The Cybermen Box Set will be released in the UK on August 9th, it contains 'Revenge of the Cybermen' (Fourth Doctor) and 'Silver Nemesis' (Seventh Doctor). I'll be getting this and..."Harry Sullivan is an imbecile!" :rabbid:

Forgot I found these on You Tube, fan made Doctor Who Anime, pretty good stuff:

Great, I am happy to see Torchwood coming back for another season. I have yet to see Children of the Earth but know for the most part what happens. I hope they keep it as good and dark as prior seasons, bring on Torchwood.

I think Torchwood can step back from the darkness. More Season 2, less Season 3. Season 3 was just like... well, it really changed my perspective on Jack. I want to see how they "redeem" him.

I still felt season 2 was still dark, it tackled moral issues and social issues that are still touchy today. It was far darker than its parent show, but Dr.Who is obviously geared to a more broad audience.

Season 2 dealt with dark issues, and... (Season 2 spoilers)

Spoiler
people died. However, it didn't make their characters extra dark or unlikable. Season 3 really made me dislike Jack.

i lol'd...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sXpInWFVVo

Im fairly new to the show and it was this latest season that got me into the show (I need to go buy the Tennant and Eccleston seasons too and I'd like to see the older stuff as well, my mum's told me she has watched Dr Who from it's first episode and still tunes in whenever she can. And I'm starting to become more and more of a sci-fi fanatic too and I can't believe i didn't watch the show sooner
