Ever since I was growing up I'd always considered myself to be a sort of PC gamer of the retro verity. Now, making my transition from fantastic DOS games to not quite as fantastic Windows ones, I stumbled upon a particular game that, as a child I couldn't quite wrap my head around. There were so many jokes flying over my head that I really had no clue at all as to what was really going on.

That game was in fact called Dave Dude. (there's also apparently a holiday edition of which I'm not sure if I've played or not)

What was it about? As far as I can remember it's about a guy who's anxious to get a girlfriend (or something...) so he must make his way through several tasks in order to do so. It's a typical point and click adventure ripe with painfully difficult puzzles and item combination.. the sort of stuff nerds like us love.

Now the reason I keep talking about this game as if I haven't played it in ages is in fact because I haven't played it in ages. I recently went out to download it again and try to beat it (as the last time I recall playing it I found myself mindlessly stuck) I found that i could not for the life of me obtain a copy. It's only available via download to my knowledge (as it is shareware/freeware) so there's no such version on a floppy disk or CD.

My mission for anyone brave enough to take the challenge is to find a working link and or copy of the game "Dave Dude" and send it my way. I'd love to do a full on review of it, but there's no way I can do that without having the source material on hand.

Maybe no one has ever heard of this game.. maybe I made it up in my crazy crazy mind. Maybe there's a savior out there amongst the heroes?

Reward for the quest? An honorable mention in the corresponding game review and maybe even something a little more enticing. Maybe a game, or maybe a T-shirt? I'm sure we can work something out.

So, how about it internet? Got a solution for me?

I was bored and tried looking for this. I swear, if I didn't come across a few other people talking about it as well, I'd think it didn't exist. I can't even find any infomation on the company itself, besides that it made both games you mentioned. I found this webpage:

http://www2.worldvillage.com/wv/hotel/html/asplinks.htm#A

Which links to the developer's webpage...which is gone, so it's more or less a deadend. Sorry.

I've only been able to find what claims to be cracks/serials etc for Dave dude in the holiday story 2.5

Nothing else. Though I'm going to have a look through some of the abandonware sites to see if that turns anything up.

Yeah that's about the same luck I've had thus far.

I did find a site that seems to have all the files... which I downloaded. There however appears to be some missing dill, thus no workie.

It just confuses me sooo much because not but a year ago I downloaded it. If my computer hadn't gone virtuomound on me, I wouldn't be in this situation.. D:

The .dll actually was with the rest of the files I downloaded. it was called VBRUN200.DLL... I placed the .dll in the appropriate place (the system folder) and now, when I click the .exe it says Überlauf (overflow... I guess this is a german copy of the game lol)

D: I'm at a loss..
