Looks like I can answer my own question. Just played the end of act 2 again. Apparently Azmodan is attacking Arreat because a defeat there will demoralize the world of Sanctuary to the point that all will be lost. I don't buy that at all, but I'm glad they explained it.

Man I remember D2, that game was fun.

I haven't picked up D3 yet, and I'm really interested in it. Is it worth picking up??

Absolutely. Most online issues you might have heard about are fixed. So it's a good time to pick it up.

Consider my question answered.

About half way through nightmare. It's even more fun on harder difficulties! Been playing a lot of co-op too. Just jumping into random games.

Definitely. I just got to Nightmare with my second character (Monk). The difference between Nightmare and Normal (just like in the previous games) is huge. With all the modernizations done to Diablo 3, Im surprised Blizzard didn't let you skip normal on your second play through. Something like, letting you start at level 28-32 with average to sub par equipment.

Nightmare is also where you get enough runes to start making some interesting builds. Last week I fully rebuilt my Wizard as a melee attacker. Spectral blades, and energy armor 'n' stuff. It's holding up pretty well so far. Im doing way WAY more damage than with my ranged spells. But sadly at the cost of less AOE. So Im not yet sure if it's a keeper or not.

Even though I like the game I can't seem to make a single post about it without shitting on it a little (what the fuck is wrong with me?). Here we go...
Spoiler
I hated the ending. I think that's one of the biggest issues I have with the story. Well, I didn't care for most of the story, but the ending was... happy. The previous games always set the tone for the next iteration with a sense of foreboding. You never truly win in the world of Sanctuary. You just postpone evil for a time. So what the hell was up with Tyreal's speach? Felt like the ending of a Michael Bay movie.

Broke the economy. I can't buy anything worth owning for Gold, only real money.

BTW, Add me on Diablo 3, we should still be able to play together even if you're Swedish.

Right now prices are pretty crazy. But that might be because people haven't gotten an idea what stuff should be worth yet. Might even out in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, the value of gold's not coming back any time soon. I can get behind the idea of either Auction House, but having both just seems like a bad idea. Getting a good balance where both houses are equally good is pretty much impossible. You'll get the good AH and the shitty AH. If they wanted to include real money, couldn't the real auction house have been gold only? In other words, you trade real money for in game currency. That way everyone can bid on the same items.

@Link. Wait, we're not on different servers? We should definitely play. I'm still on Nightmare with both my characters. I don't have a solo character (yet) so leveling has been progressing slowly.

@Mr Black. Can't wait 'til I get to Hell.

Rare/champion enemies are ridiculously hard. Especially for my barbarian character as they typically have the fire/lava/poison ability that just eats away your health if you're up close (even though I made an extremely defensive character build). The funny thing is though the Skeleton King on hell is incredibly easy. He just has a lot of health.

Debating about taking a break from the game for a bit. I need to finish Skyrim/start playing MGS3.

I finished Hardcore on Normal (not a big deal) but there are significantly less achievements to keep me invested in the game. Like... SIGNIFICANTLY LESS. I think all I have are maybe constantly reloading a few zones in acts for rare spawn dungeons and then beating the game on Inferno (lol yeah right) and just basically "grinding/dumb luck" type achievements. I'm pretty much finished.

Hell, once I found out that battle.net funds can't be transferred to Paypal (you have to set auctions up to specifically use Paypal) my 25 dollars is looking pretty weak.

I haven't touched the game in a month. Was trying to play on Hell but kept getting matched with idiots and really was getting tired of dying over and over and over. I'll get back into it eventually but not sure if I want to suffer the pain of Inferno...

I solo'd Hell. Ok, I lie, I played co-op with a friend who was also in Hell, but I also solo'd too once I got a high DPS weapon. Then you hit Inferno and it's like "hahahaha, fuck that."

I jumped on Diablo late last week to hit up the auction house for a good DPS weapon and armour to help me out in Hell.

I also found out during the Blizzard hack someone did get a hold of my email information. Thankfully I changed my password so they couldn't do shit. Changed my email too now but I've already been hit with a phishing attempt I had to bring to Blizzard's attention... ugh...
