I have two ps3 controllers one black and one white, both are now doing random things like hitting random buttons when i press a certain button. i like to think i take care of all of my controllers but this is taking the cake for me. i don't throw my controllers all over the place let alone abuse them.
i just feel that the quality isn't so top notched as it used to be.

I've never had any issues with the DualShock 3 controllers I own. Honestly. They're pretty solid, overall. Not sure what issues you're experiencing. Could be related to battery issues, maybe.

Yeah I haven't had problems with DS3 controllers yet knock on wood. They seem pretty solid. I fear the battery may be a problem down the road but I'll worry about it then.

it could be the games im playin lately though because alot of them are store bought. i donno im grasping at straws about this. i will say that the analog nubs seem a bit weaker to me because you can easily grind them down when doing 360's for a period of time. hell i felt that i beat the ps2 controllers up alot and they don't give me crap.

only reason why i brought this up is because i got a friend who's experiencing the exact same problem. during a match in call of duty he goes to swing his knife and he instead switches to his secondary and throws a nade.
my problem is when i make a turn and use the handbrake in a racing game i switch views while making the turn. and both of us would be playing NHL12 and we would randomly poke check. maybe its the distance between the systems. controller feedback or something.

I will say that my main DualShock 3 feels less "tight" in the analog sticks ... but, it's still more responsive and feels better than a DualShock 2. I've played hours upon hours on the PS3 and haven't had any issues. It could be those controllers you could try some new ones, maybe. (it's perfectly possible that a specific region is getting shipments of controllers that aren't so great, it happens).

Yeah my PS3 controllers have been used for years and are fine. my 360 controllers on the other hand......those colored buttons get worn out pretty quickly and the analog sticks sometimes(no ive never spilled anything on it). Though that doesn't include my special 360 controller which works great, but thats the one not made by Microsoft.

but anyway, I have no problems on my end. sometimes some areas don't get good luck with stuff

Yeah, mine are fine as well. I accidentally destroyed one, and another doesn't work anymore, but it's a 3rd party controller (damn thing is suppose to cool your hands, stopped using it for awhile and when I went to use it again, it doesn't work!).

I used to like the PS2 controller but then once I got used to the Xbox 360 controllers, the PS2/PS3 controllers just seemed like crap to me. I just don't like the analog placement.

I think i have found a source of the problem and believe it to be a design flaw. i took apart the controller giving me the most trouble and found out two very important pieces as to why it happens.

1. they are using a flex circuit.
2. its not a solid connection from the flex circuit to the silicon board.

various things can get in the way and cause inputs to register a hit. like dust for example.

just clean it off and reseed the board back in place and make sure its tight. so far i only had to do it to one controller, and it could be a hit or miss. i won't know for sure till i look at a buddy's controllers that do the same thing.

I love my wonderful pink PS3 controller.

I don't really play my PS3 enough to warrant complaining about it.

The Dual-Shock is the physical embodiment of perfection. It's probably my favorite controller.

this is THE FIX for the controllers if they give you problems. i did my friend's four and not a single mess up while playing games.

I vote Sega Saturn Model 2. This thing is nothing short of delicious hand candy.

But on a not quite related note, how come most of the PSTripple's rail shooters I've played (aka Time Crisis Razing Storm with 3 games on it) don't seem to have the ability to fuck with the crosshair sensitivity (unless I'm missing it and haven't looked hard enough)? Facefucking Taito Collection let me make Operation Wolf's crosshairs nice and smooth. ADVANCE one generation and all of a sudden a slight, slight, slight nudge makes the fucker fly across the screen. Trying to shoot the giant snake's fangs in Dead Storm Pirates without a PS Move gun is like Michael J Fox trying to hit JFK.
