So far so good. The chase sequences are entirely lame though. They're too chaotic and if Harry would fucking RUN during and AFTER checking his cellphone it'd be a lot less annoying. Seriously, you can't run and hold a cellphone Harry? What's your fucking deal.

Also, the psych stuff is cool. Coloring on the Wii was a BITCH. I did like how all the colors you used effected what the house looked like. That part was neato. :D

I'm not sure how I feel about people's appearances changing based off your psych answers. I know it's a "reimagining" but changing how some of the main characters look sort of bothers me.

I might end up picking this game up eventually, though I have heard you don't get any weapons.

This is correct. There is NO combat in this game. They've removed the "Fight" and all you have left is "Or Flight".

The running sequences are bit shitty IMHO. You're basically just sprinting around blindly and trying to take a chance to check your mini-map on your phone. The thing that sucks about that is it's basically a lot of trial and error (at least it was for me.)

The story and "exploring" parts are some of the best in the Silent Hill series though.

man, I really do not know how to feel about this game. I thought it might be cool but I think they really made a mistake by calling it a Reimage or 'remake' or whatever.

They should of just called it a spin off and I am sure many more people would of been more excited for it.

Ive seen a bunch of game play and I am thinking that it might be okay, But I would have to get it for PS2

In a way I really wish they ended the series with part 4 I just see it keep going downhill and its sort of upsetting since I am such a big fan,

And to be honest I like SHO yeah the story sucked but really I felt like It was a true silent hill adventure and 5 did not feel the same.

I think they should make a silent hill game with Walter Sullivan a the hero and really get back to what made silent hill great, and to be honest I know alot of people hate it I would of rather seen like a sequel to SH4 then a remake.
Somthing about 4 really just got me.

There's no variation in the gameplay. You're either solving very simple puzzles, which are usually just figure out what motion to do to manipulate this object or find the key somewhere within five meters of the door it opens (Resident Evil 4 was that game that started this trend in puzzle design, and I fucking hate it for that); or you're participating in the nightmare sequences which are just running through a maze, trying to avoid enemies, then solving another simple puzzle at the end.

Running from the monsters is only scary the first couple of times you do it, and then it becomes tedious. The nightmare areas could have been the most inventive part of the game, but instead they're the part you'll hate the most. Rather than forcing you to run all the time, maybe they could have thrown in a bit more stealth than hiding under a bed or in a locker. Turn the sequences into Metal Gear Holy Shit What the Fuck is That?. Also, needs boss battles.

I think that a lot more games should have about the same amount of gameplay variance as Earthworm Jim 2. Hardly any two missions play the same, except for those Puppy Love levels.

Update: The ending is amazing.

If you know the Silent Hill mythos, you'll be wondering up until the end how Shattered Memories ties into everything. It doesn't, but it's awesome in its own right.

I'm still not sure if I'd consider it a game though. A psychological simulator, maybe. It's definitely different. Harry Mason isn't you -- you are Harry Mason. It's similar to the way Metroid Prime lets you characterize Samus your own way, but the narrative isn't as well done in SM (too vague). It made me feel like I was playing through "The Waste Land."

I finished the game. My final thoughts are "Meh."

It's a fun game, and I like the psychological thing, but I feel that somehow I played this game wrong. Then again, that's ALWAYS the case when I play a Silent Hill game. I have a constant stream of "fuck ups".

Silent Hill 1 - I couldn't put the blood in the container or whatever so I had to kill Cybil.

Silent Hill 2 - I examined the knife. I examine ALL items I pick-up, what a fucking boobytrap.

Silent Hill 3 - I don't even remember... maybe I DID have a successful run of Silent Hill? Who knows.

Silent Hill 4 - I didn't use the candles properly, and the bitch died too.

So... when it came to Shattered Memories, I apparently am some raging fucking alcoholic because of the following two reasons:

#1. I chose to go into a Bar instead of the Diner, because I knew Cybil was in the Diner, and games have taught me to explore EVERYWHERE except the checkpoint/obvious place so you find all the extra goodies.

#2. I answered "Yes" to the fact that having a drink helps me relax. I'm pretty sure EVERYONE is relaxed by Alcohol. It's a fucking depressant, that's what it does! A better T/F question would've been "I have a drink more than once a week."

#3. While exploring I was examining this container that turned out to be homemade alcohol.

So... ultimately I was just a raging alcoholic. Everyone had booze in their hands... shit, even Cheryl probably had booze in her hand. Everything seemed to be related to alcohol. I wore a fucking Letterman's Jacket promoting a beer. Just... fuck... EVERYTHING seemed to be about alcohol and addiction. Even the fucking movie in the theater was called "Bad Poison".

Like... seriously... I realize alcoholism is this serious thing and what not, but it seems ultimately 100% cliche in this scenario, especially in a Silent Hill game. Not to mention I only went down this Alcoholic path because of "goof up" selections that were entirely unintentional on my part, and just part of my exploratory nature that has been built into me ever since I was a gamer. You explore and examine and do every little possible thing in a game, or else you'll pass up some special item or some such stuff.

I feel that because of this, it ruined my Shattered Memories experience. It also makes me an unfair judge of the actual story and/or "psychological" part of it. This game was NOT my personal nightmare. Unless of course my personal nightmare is having a game incorrectly judge me and shovel a generic bullshit story down my throat. :-/

I give the game a 7/10 in my arbitrary scoring system. It's about as good as Silent Hill 3... and for me Silent Hill 3 was like my LEAST favorite of the ones I've played. Oh, and as a side note... the game is entirely NOT scary. It has a nice atmosphere, but once you realize that NOTHING is going to attack you unless you're in a "chase sequence" it's really just more of a PC Adventure game.

This game is pretty good. I give it a "has pretty coo' story and the chase scenes were scary, though tedious at times, but they did mix them up somewhat at some points so kudos for that" out of 10.

I got it from Gamefly, not bad one the Wii's better titles or atleast worth a rent. I just wish I had something to defend myself in the game, or atleast let me look at my map when I'm hiding. Every time the world freezes over, I end up uttering "dammit". I did like calling everyone on the phone anyone call the Konami hotline?

I did wish you could look at your map while you're hiding as well, though because of it I ended up depending more on the scenery then where I've gone on the map anyways.

Shouldn't this be in "The Others" Since it's also on PSP?

Anyway, I played it on my PSP and I got to say. It's pretty fun and keeps me entertained. Although, there's no combat so that kind of sucks. Plus, Harry's kind of slow at those nightmare parts.

The silent hill half of me wants to get this game but, the other half is a little weary on it from what I've heard. I dunno, maybe I'll pick it up when it drops down to $20 or something along those lines

It was originally billed as a Nintendo game when it was first announced if I remember correctly.

is it worth playing this on PSP? I am going out of town for a few days at the end of this month, thinking about either renting it or picking it up used to give me something to do.

To answer your question, yes. It is pretty fun on PSP I can assure you. Although at times, the joystick may feel slightly stiff.

I'm just now playing this game....and I absolutely HATE it. The "nightmare" sequences are absolute crap; whoever designed them or thought they would be a good idea should get repeatedly kicked in the crotch. Is there any freakin' method to the madness when you run around? And I'm so sick of the Wiimote flailing trying to shake them off, with half the time nothing I do registering. I've already died about 6 times in the Nightmare stages and I'm only on the second one. I feel exactly like Phelous when he played it.

This very well could be the first SH game I don't even finish, because my blood pressure can't take much more of this crap. The last time I died I almost ripped the disc out and smashed with a hammer.
