Really?

http://www.gamespot.com/news/wii-mini-l ... rt-6400631

So $100 for a stripped down Wii, for the same price you can get a full-fledged Wii? Pass.

The only thing they actually removed was internet ability. GameCube support has been out of Wii for almost 2 years.

It's always interesting to see Nintendo's various third iterations when they actually do them. Obviously, this is meant as a budget release for families whom still can't afford $130-$150 for a system.

Not all hardware is meant for everyone. I think this is interesting from a collection standpoint ... but not as a usable device. But ... if you couldn't afford a Wii (or any other system) for the last 6 years, this wouldn't be a bad proposition.

Kind of sucks that it's Canada only. The poverty line in the US is atrocious.

Someone who seriously considers getting that should just get a netbook.

I wish as a nod to the old school fans this thing was a top loader. I'd be on that like white on rice.

But that's what doesn't make sense to me, you can get a regular Wii right now for the exact same price. If this were $50 or something I could buy that, but the $100 price makes no sense.

And the GC support has been taken out of Wiis for the last 2 years?

Yeah, GameCube support has been gone from Wii for awhile. They also don't stand up anymore. This made a big hoopla when they announced this. I think it was the units that bundled New Super Mario Bros. Wii with them that were the first.

I imagine, the current Wii, which is the GameCube-less one will start getting phased out. The MSRP of it is likely higher than what people are selling it for, also.
I'm also not sure if this will stay Canadian exclusive, either, the wording is interesting it says Canada exclusive through holiday. I could see Nintendo really pumping out the Nintendo Selects line and keeping this $100 unit afloat for awhile (Even dropping it in price). Their main target audience is people who don't already have it anyway, so that's going to be people whom can only think about it if it's $100 or below.

Whether or not this unit is for people whom use this or any video game website is a different matter entirely.

The Wii's that were bundled with New Super Mario did have Gamecube support. I have one, so it must have been the bundles that followed.

As for the mini Wii.... meh, pass.

Mini Wii, huh? Is it smaller than a regular Wii? Less powerful? I have a Wii at home, why would I need a Mini Wii?

If they were on sale here in the US, I'd still pass on this.

In the US, that's the one they rolled out the redesign with.
The Mario Kart bundle was the last one that had gamecube support ... here.

Just to note, I'm not talking about the Red Anniversary one.
