Compared to Bring Down the Sky, no it's not worth it. And then I'm not really sure that first DLC was worth it either but it had a neat little story and fit nicely into the rest of the game, it's just that it was so short.

Pinnacle Station however is just a bunch of combat simulations or whatever. You go there and go through a bunch of deathmatch and other types of sims straight out of a multiplayer FPS and when you're done you get a little reward. There's no interesting story though, a bit of dialogue, sure, but no story.

I picked up Mass Effect a long time ago and really couldn't get into it. I found it annoying that whenever I talked to someone I got another side mission so I totally lost track of what the hell I was suppose to be doing so I stopped playing. Picked up again a few months later, was getting a little more interested in it but then got to a mission where I got my ass kicked severely, didn't save and the checkpoint was set for the BEGINNING of the mission (I had to have been at LEAST half way through the mission when I died). I got very pissed, had enough and sold the game to my friend and never looked back.

Last month I was at my local Best Buy and I checked out the used games. They had Mass Effect for $5, so I picked it up again (I just couldn't refuse to price of $5). Last weekend I decided to throw the game back in and start a whole new character. Picked the soldier class as it suits my game style better (I think I was I biotic before and I didn't find that class fun at all). I can say now the game has FINALLY sucked me in. I'm really enjoying it. The change in class and just being more aware of what side missions to do and when seems to be helping me a lot. I think I'm a little over half way through the main story, which I think's pretty good as I just started playing it on Saturday afternoon!

I'm going to pick up the second one over the summer. I have too many other games to get through like Darksiders (about half done), Bayonetta, Shadow Complex and I have Bioshock and AvP coming next month on pre order and March I have God of War III. No time to give Mass Effect 2 the playthrough it deserves.

some bug enemy, pretty early in the game really, bumrushed me and killed me in one hit. the game's autosave doesn't work very well so i got to go through 45 minutes of shit (including a godawful driving segment) over again. it happened yet again and i sold the game.

i don't give a shit how great it is later on, that's bad game balance.

and before you even get anywhere in the game, there's a jillion sidequests with terrible rewards that are long and boring. too bad that's half the content.

OK played it through multiple times, loved it each time . DLC is pretty lame , Bringing was ok because I got some great armour for Tali which I couldn't find in the main game at all and ,as one of my favourite characters, it was a good reward. Pinnacle however is just lame , if your a gamerscorewhore then its a very easy 150g's , other than that its kinda pointless.

Now about the save thing - the autosave it useless, if you don't pay attention and save the game yourself ( it allows you to pretty much save at anytime as long as your not in combat ) your going to get angry and frustrated - I have a rule of thumb: After every major scurmish or every 10 mins ... SAVE!

I learned this by landing on a planet , driving around collecting stuff , bit of a fight , driving some more .. BAM!! Thrasher maw straight through the mako and there i was back when i first landed on the planet. If you don't want to get frustrated MANUAL SAVE , if you cant be bothered doing this then I have no sympathy for you.

PS kaiden sucks - dies everytime :-D

shouldn't have to be bothered to save when autosave is turned on. not my fault it doesn't work well. can it be worked around with manual saves? yes. does that excuse it from being bad game design? no.

also the entirety of the time i was in the citadel, it WOULD NOT let me save, much to my chagrin seeing as how i wanted to stop fucking playing but noooo play me more don't leave me otakudad give me a chance.

so i played it more for a while then sold it because it was broken and maybe decent at best, at least up to that point.

2 points -

1. Just cause a game has an Autosave you think you shouldn't have to manual save - your choice, your frustration, your anger, your disappointment . How long should it autosave 5 mins? 10? 15? what if you made a mistake ? can't go back cause it autosaved? Doesn't mean bad game design just means you didnt like it.

2. It wouldn't let you save in the citadel ... dude your game was broke .... as in dodgy copy not game design .....

1. it should autosave at least whenever something important happens. i went through three or four important events before getting ohko'd without it autosaving. so yes, i'd call it bad game design. autosaving based on amount of time would be bad game design too--what if it saved right as i got shot and died? then i'd be fucked. if it saved the way it should, nothing like that would be an issue.

2. fair enough, i was playing a pirated copy so that's probably why. i have played the legit version on 360 (before it rrod'd) but i don't remember whether it let me save there or not.

This was my exact problem with the game and why I haven't played it for a year. I get frustrated like this at games and I just plain out refuse to play them for a very long time (Code Veronica comes to mind). Suddenly Saturday I had an urge to play it so I popped it back in and haven't looked back. Already getting close to beating the main quest. Still, I agree the autosave is totally broken as per the first few times I tried to play it and caused a shit load of frustration.

Valid point but I'm playing through it right now, it autosaves after major points but not minor ones and there are alot of minor ones in ME. TBH though I may be defending autosave here but I'm really not its biggest fan. Even in a game with autosave working great i always manual save if I can casue I just don't trust autosave :-)

anyone who plays RPGs and doesn't constantly save their game to multiple save slots hasn't been burned yet - which obviously you have.

in any RPG I play its a general rule of thumb to save often and use at least 3 save slots just to be safe and spread them out a bit.

I love me some mass effect, got ME2 pre-ordered and was shocked to see its not a midnight release, they had a half hour special on syfy about this game its so big, but no midnight release, seems strange.

i do that in games where manual save is the only option.

again, i would expect autosave to work in a way where that isn't a necessity.

Why? Autosaves aren't meant to be crutches.

uhm, i never said they were? mass effect has no designated "save points", and autosave never saves when you wouldn't be able to manually save anyways, so it's in no way a crutch. it's a time saver. or it would be, if it worked as it should.

But that's just the thing. It is a time saver in the sense that if you forget to save you may lose normally between 5 - 40 minutes whereas you could've ended up losing several hours of progress.

a crutch is something that helps you.

i don't see how losing SEVERAL HOURS OF PROGRESS instead of 5-40 minutes is a crutch?

What? 5-40 minutes is the autosave. Your own example was, what, 45 minutes?
The crutch thing came from you acting as if it should somehow work even better than that when it's not really meant to do so.

i don't think you quite get it.

if manual save was the only way to go in mass effect, i would manual save frequently and never lose hours of progress or whatever you were saying. it has autosave, though, and so i expect autosave to save whenever an important event occurs, which it does not.

you seem to assume if there was no autosave i would just flat out NOT SAVE, thereby losing hours of progress.

so i don't really think you know what you're talking about.

The only thing I don't get is why the existence of autosaves would make you save less frequently to begin with. The autosaves do trigger at important events, maybe not everything you might consider important but there you go. It also triggers when you enter the Normandy, when you make landfall and when you enter certain rooms.
What it doesn't do is save every time there's the slightest chance for Shepard to trip over his own shoelaces.

Could they have added some more triggers though? Sure, probably. There's one planet in particular that's tied to the main plot and while easy at that point in the game could still use another autosave just in case.
The manual save is there for a reason though so again, I really don't understand why you would slack off with the saves. I'm genuinely curious because for me it's second nature to save often in any game that allows manual saves, whether it has autosaves or not.
