Thank You! Good lord, I'm not a huge Final Fantasy 7 fan (kinda am but I'm not obsessed with it or whatever) but I can't stand the way the word emo is thrown around all willy nilly like :hulk: .

Anyways, back on topic. I gotta agree with whoever said M. Bison. I mean, I don't even know what he does. Mortal Kombat may not be as good a fighting game as SF but at least I know the motivations behind the villains.

Bowser – doesn’t seem like he’s trying half the time.
King Dedede – Easy, and can’t seem to make up his mind if he even wants to be a bad guy.
Darth Vader – The guy’s a shell of a human being and as a result his force powers are kind of weak compared to other Sith apparently. And according to the movies he’s just a confused kid who got tricked into being the bad guy for about 20 years. Palpatine > Vader.

When I read the title of the topic I immediately thought of Sephiroth, he was cool but I'll never understand why he developed such a cult following.

Lavos is all about strategy and such, not about brawn. Even at the higher levels of 90+ and shit I still have a pain in the ass time with it all. But, really, how can you knock on an enemy who destroys the entire world/timeline?

I'm going to have to go with Illidan from Burning Crusade. From the start with the big trailer 'You are not ready...' to his chant in Shadowmoon Valley bashing Arthas saying even he could not even have defeated him. The warglaives of awesomeness that he drops and his whole attitude.. Getting keyed for everything up to Black Temple was a good push for WoW's standards and all the storyline behind him in the Warcraft books, ecspically the War of the Ancients trilogy.. when you got to him and fought him, he was a pushover. Sure you knew the strategies and my guild was not the first to fight him in existance or the first in the battlegroup, but with a little information, a couple naked runs into him and general knowledge of how WoW's boss system works, I felt Illidan was very over-rated. Hopefully Arthas will be harder..

The king cheapass of the Street Fighter series. There are many, many Street Fighter characters I enjoy battling more than M. Bison. He's either really easy or really cheap, and in Alpha 3, he almost literally had an instant win move (the full-screen Psycho Crusher).

And besides, what does he do? Why is he evil? I've never quite understood what his evil plot is, other than being immortal or something, or that horrible American canon where he was a drug lord (lame!). I mean, I guess enslaving little girls and making them dress in tight costumes is dispicable enough, but otherwise, he's not a very interesting character. Sagat is infinitely more interesting than M. Bison.

This is why Bison is evil. He tried to use his crime syndicate, Shadaloo, to infiltrate and control governments around the world. He killed Chun Li's father and Guile's best friend Charlie. After he's tried in the court of law for his crimes, he bribes all the judges and jury with cash so he can go free and seek revenge on Chung-Lee and Guile for blowing up his Thailand base and Psycho Drive. He's pretty evil.

Seph - come on, you can pown him with like, 1 or two attacks.. (FFVII) and he looks cool? well maybe yes but... he kinda looks gay also... (black leather?).
Cloud - gez, he wasnt even himself lol (yeah not a villain i know :p)
Zack owns!

FFVII aside:
All MK bosses after shao khan, wtf? like mk4, shinok or whatever, enevr ear of him be a baddie after that (i mean, a real boss). Tsung can pown his ass anyday!

Illidan.. well, yeah... they made him a boss... but hes cool, but arthas is way better, but killing them is too stupid...

Croccodile - Gez, ok that was a good fight, but there are soooooo many guys that could have pown him! (anyone knows wtf is this line about? :p).

Me - Im good, but im not as great as people say, but you can fear my anyway!

Well, since it has been set on stone that Seph is overrated...

I guess i'll have to go with Rugal from the KOF series. I know he is kinda the iconic Boss from the series, but, meh, he is not that great.

After those two, i can't really think of a overrated villain.

If anyone played Legend of Dragoon Melbu Fhrama was like the most overrated..........he was supposed to be this destroyer of worlds and king of the winglies, and if you remember lloyd a wingly who owns your ass like three times, you would think the king of winglies would be more bad ass than that.

Sephiroth without a doubt; interesting character but not a strong villian.

I'm gonna say Sepherioth, too. It seems like most of the people singing his praises haven't seen Kefka, and although he had cool music and a cool sword, there really wasn't that much to him that really made him that villanious, even though he did kill Aries (I will romanize/transliterate エリス however the hell I want, thank you very much).

I too have never seen much of a connection between emo (as we use it now) and FFVII characters, sure there are plenty of hokey moments going around, but emo? I feel the term is far more applicable to a certain FFVIII male lead.

As for my answer to the topic, while I wouldn't say Bowser is necessarily "overrated" he's completely lost his touch. The final showdown with him in world 8-4 in SMB1 gave me nightmares, but he's hardly even stood up to me from Super Mario World onwards. In New Super Mario Bros. he shows up a few times, but just seems to be playing second fiddle to Bowser Jr. :-(
