Fired up my Wii for like the first time in six months. Played some Data East collection.

Beat Heavy Barrel
Beat Wizard Fire
Beat Bad Dudes
Beat Sly Spy

not a bad way to kill two hours

The Binding of Isaac is incredibly addictive and difficult. I feel like an abused spouse who keeps covering for the abuser...only to be smacked around again.

I finished Metal Gear Solid 4 and I have a lot of thoughts about it and how it wraps up the story.

Right off the bat, it's my least favorite Metal Gear Solid. However, that's not really fair to the game because Metal Gear Solid 1-3 as a whole are probably in my top 5 games and Metal Gear Solid 4 still is a phenomenal game. What worked well was the weapon and controls system, which gave me a lot of customization on my loadout. It was a nice touch, but I personally still stuck to the silencer and sniper rifle for most of the game, with the machine gun as my go to heavy weapon. I still preferred the older system, but I will agree that it's more accessible to newcomer. Second, the combat is great and really fun. I really enjoyed how the game lets you either go crazy and shoot everything that moves or take a more tactical route and incorporate stealth. And last, the bosses were pretty good but nowhere near as memorable as the Cobras or Foxhound. The final fight, though, was perfect and the music playing was just perfect. I still would have preferred if it was a young Solid Snake fighting, but eh, I'll get to that later.

Storywise, I'm mixed. And I really can't talk about it without making major spoilers, so:

Spoiler
Solid Snake being old and dying just didn't work for me and the characterization for some of the staple characters was off for me. Some characters like Otacon and Raiden were fantastic, but Snake and Meryl just didn't work for me. Snake just went back to being a pessimistic douchebag like he was in MGS 1 and completely forgot about all of the growing up he did throughout the game and through 2 eventually becoming a wiser person. I personally loved his personality in 2, still being stern and determined yet hopeful and compassionate. The part where Meryl almost dies and Snake completely ignores that scenario just felt wrong and both him and Meryl felt so out of touch in terms of characterization. And marrying Meryl and Johnny was one of the worst decisions Kojima made in my personal opinion.

Complaints aside, the story does do a good job in explaining everything that you had questions about and the reveal of Eva was great. And the ending with Big Boss? Perfect. I guess the problem is that the story tried to hard to be tragic, to the point where everything is depression. What worked in MGS 1-3 was the tragic elements, but there were some traces of uplifting elements, while 4 did have an uplifting ending coupled with hours of depression. I know that Old Snake was made because Kojima wanted to end the series, but I still don't like his character and he just feels like a bitter shell with no redeeming qualities.

However, that aside, the game is phenomenal. I may prefer the older games, but this game does do justice to the series and offers some amazing action with some great looking cutscenes, which I didn't mind, lengthwise (beats the hour long Codec and cutscene in MGS 2). Overall, the MGS series have been some of the best games I've played and from an objective point of view, Snake Eater is easily the best one, but personally I love 1-3 equally. And I was originally sad to see the series end, until MGS 5 was announced which I'm really excited to hear more from.

Back from my much-needed vacation and dove back into Skyrim. Decided it's time to beat the main story finally so that will be my mission the next few days.

Played Brotherhood yet? If not I await your opinion on that ending...

1 and 2 are the only ones I own.

When Brotherhood and Revelations drop in price I'll definitely snag them. However, I'm seriously considering pre-ordering 3 ... that game looks really good. I'm just really pissed off at the entire lack of special edition support on PC ... I mean seriously ... come the fuck on. I will pay you the $150 or whatever ... just release! You know .. like ... at the same time. Not ten years later when no one cares anymore.

Brotherhood I think has the best gameplay in the series but by far the worst ending (which says a lot). Revelations was good, but more of the same. Didn't add enough new gameplay (what they did add wasn't even necessary) and the ending was meh. It wasn't terrible, I just expected a little more.

3 on the other hand... I don't think I've been excited for an Assassin's Creed game since 2. I want to pre order it but I do know that these games tend to drop in price weeks after release. Revelations was on sale for $40 three weeks after release (hence why I got 3 copies of it for xmas) and it was on sale for $20 on Boxing Day. Same went for both 2 and Brotherhood, $20 price drop weeks after release. If I wait a little bit I can get it for cheaper. Going to be hard to wait though. It looks like it's going to be awesome.

AC games always seem to come out right before a big Holiday sale... I got Brotherhood for half price on Black Friday, and I think Revelations did the same (although I just rented that one from a Red Box.)

Finally beat the main story in Skyrim. Pretty good overall but not as fun as the side missions/quests.

Best Buy and Future Shop are having crazy deals on games this week and I'm being tempted to spend money I really shouldn't. Looking at Dark Souls for $20 and Max Payne 3 for $40. Lollipop Chainsaw is also on sale for $40 even though it came out last week. We'll see how much free money I have after bills/rent.

Can't pick up Dark Souls until Friday when I get paid. Totally broke thanks to bills and rent. I REALLY shouldn't be spending money on games but the game is so cheap I can't say no. gasline, Ill try and get it on PS3. Going to look for a used copy for $15. Is there a stupid online pass for that game?
