Anyone playing the new Devil May cry reboot? I have the demo but I haven't played it yet.

I got it on PC. Only played the first mission so far but I can tell you on normal difficulty it's way, way easier than any other DMC game. I just replayed the first DMC and to beat the first boss took me 3 or 4 tries. The reboot I beat the first boss and got an S ranking on my first attempt. But I hear it's incredibly replayable for unlockables and there are insane difficulty levels that unlock so we'll have to see.

I'll keep you up to date on my progress but with a double XP weeking in Black Ops 2 I won't be playing DmC much.

The higher difficulties is where the flaws in gameplay stick out the most. No matter what, it's still an incredibly easy game. And as far as story goes, it's straight up bad, complete with bad characterization and bad dialogue, (but the voice acting is good).

Example of bad dialogue:

Spoiler
Vorgil to Donte: We make a good team, don't we?
...
Donte: I'm stronger
Vorgil: I'm smarter
Donte: I'm better looking (personal edit: nope)
Vorgil: *dialogue relevant to plot*... And I have a bigger dick

Note: I haven't bought the game myself, nor do I plan to because I knew it would be bad. I have however seen a talking let's play.

I just played the original DMC and I can tell you the dialogue in that game is not that great either, so that's not why I play the series. As long as the gameplay is awesome that's what matter.

I think the gameplay in DmC is really good, but just not the challenge I come to expect.

Set up is too similar to Heavenly Sword (another NT game with bad combat), guns are weak, no individual styles, there is an unmapped button, enemies are non-threatening, bosses are a joke, 2 dodge buttons, busted Devil Trigger, style meter doesn't go down unless you are hit, if you walk through a space that is enclosing on you, you'll realize that you won't be crushed, and worst of all, no lock-on which makes no sense.

Oh don't get me wrong, it doesn't come close to capturing the the fantastic gameplay of the original DMC or DMC 3 (one of my top 5 games of all time btw) but it's still a fun game from what I've played. I'll give more of an opinion once I play more this week but I do agree that the bosses so far are a joke compared to the original series.

Oh and the style meter does go down once you hit an A style rank. Not much solace for seasoned veterans in the series like us but meh. I wasn't expecting the next DMC3 with this game, I was just expecting a solid brawler and that's exactly what it is. If you want combat more akin to the original series hit up Bayonetta. Fantastic gameplay, made by the original creator of DMC but fuck me one of the most stupid stories I've ever seen in gaming. Half way through beating it I just skipped all the cutscenes as a) they made no sense and b) I could feel my braincells committing suicide from watching them.

Also I liked the combat in Heavenly Sword, I just HATED the forced six axis controls... they alone made me get rid of the game without beating it.

You don't go from A - B in the middle of combat though. Or S to A and so forth. SSS is way to easy to get and maintain, because you can literally do nothing and keep it.

And I have played Bayonetta. It's one of my favorite games this generation, and I'll soon be getting Metal Gear Rising (which releases on my birthday btw)

If they had the total gameplay awesomeness with the wise-crackin' Dante of DMC 3 as well as the boss fights it would be the best game ever!

Metal Gear Rising looks awesome too, but I'm waiting for a price drop. I have too many other games to play right now, but it looks right up my ally hack and slash wise.

As for DMC, after 4 I knew the series was dead. 4 wasn't a bad game, but it was far from great. Recycled areas and bosses that took up half the game was just terrible, but Dante's combat system was arguably the best in the series. Too bad they couldn't make a full game out of it...

Oh well, more DmC this week and I'll give a better opinion on Ninja's Theory's version. I hear it's not that long.

I'll pick this up when it hits under $30. I still have Assassin's Creed III and Halo 4 to finish, plus the next game I get will be Dead Space 3.

Two hours in and I'm really enjoying it. The art style is pretty awesome, especially on PC (60 fps compared to 30 on consoles... don't know why they did that. Capcom probably wanted to get the game out ASAP). The platforming parts are pretty cool, leaps and bounds better than the original series and the combat is fun. I do like that you can change between 3 combat types at a press of a trigger button, but it's nowhere as deep or as challenging as the original series. Like I said before, I was expecting this and just wanted a solid hack and slasher and it's exactly that. It's a good game to introduce people to the series.

Oh and the story's alright, it's enjoyable for what it is. The voice acting is top notch, but it's a Ninja Theory game so it's expected.

Also, for some reason I have all of Dante's alternate costumes unlocked already, so I'm playing as classic Dante.

Beat the game. Overall I really enjoyed it. It's lots of fun, but not without flaws. Lack of lock on is a pain in the ass when dealing with tougher enemies (those ninja enemies are harder than any boss in the game, except the final one).

Awesome level design and platforming. Great boss design but they're all pretty easy. The news anchor boss was one of the most unique and fun boss fights in any game I've ever played though.

Since I got the game on PC from GMG.com I got the costume packs for free and played through the game as classic Dante, which probably helped a lot. I don't like his redesign but it's far from a deal breaker. Gameplay is mega fun, combat is smooth but needs some refinement to make it A+ (bring a lock on system and it'll be a whole lot better). Platforming sections are great and the final boss fight reminds me a lot of classic DMC bosses. Too bad the rest are so easy.

Anyways, check it out, I'm going to play on Son of Sparda once I get through a few more games in my queue.
