Well it's now offical: The Wii Goldeneye game is coming to 360 and PS3 built on a new engine to allow it to have HD graphics and 60fps. They're also adding in 16 player online multiplayer, keeping 4 player split screen (awesome!) and adding in a Spec Ops kind of mode. I was thinking about picking up the Wii version but with this coming there's no point.

Now I am one of the biggest fans of the N64 Goldeneye out there. Hell when I was 14 I got a small part time job just so I could buy a tv and N64 to play Goldeneye and even THEN I had to wait a freakin month to get the game as it was so backordered. I played the living crap out of it in high school, from the multiplayer to unlocking EVERYTHING in the game I hold the original very near and dear. I am excited for a reimagining of the game but I'm also afraid they'll COD the game up too much. I want to be able to sneak around and kill guards without alerting them, use gadgets and have level trials to unlock game bonuses like the original. I have a feeling not all these will be included.

Anyways, what are your thoughts?

played the wii version (got it because of the free gold classic controller pro) it's pretty good. not 100% nostalgic but not entirely bad. 4 player deathmatches aren't as awesome as back then.

Maybe they'll make this one better than the wii version, or maybe they're just cashing in the nostalgia effect again.

Pretty sure it's going to be a full priced game. If they have some good modes/multiplayer/challenges I think it might be worth it. I'll wait to see some reviews and put it on my xmas list. Worst case I'll pick it up for $40 on boxing day. Seriously though, give us level challenges/unlocks like the original please as well as the bonus levels like the temple fighting off against Jaws. I would be very happy if those were included as well.

Full price for a port of a Wii game that is a remake of an N64 title, pass

Just pick up the Perfect Dark HD remake and play the Goldeneye maps on that, that looks much closer to the real thing than this. Better graphics and controls, but the same awesome gameplay and levels you remember, it even has online multiplayer. I had a blast with that and it was a steal at $10 (it's been deal of the week at $5.)

I never really got into Perfect Dark. Don't know why as it was pretty much a sequel to Goldeneye. I think because it was a lot less sneaky. I loved either sneaking up on guards with the silenced PP7 or taking them out from afar with the sniper rifle which for some reason seemed silenced. Well like I said if there's a good amount of additional modes, challenges etc. and I'm able to do a lot of sneaking around with some big action moments (not too much because I really did love sneaking around spy style in the original) I'll be happy.

Well I think Goldeneye had a better campaign, the cyberpunk spy stuff in Perfect Dark is cool but that gets sidetracked with all the alien stuff going on later in the game. It was cool back in the day, but comes off pretty hokey now.

But on purely a multiplayer level Perfect Dark took everything Goldeneye had and took it to the 10th power. At least double the weapons, customizable characters, edit the weapon drops, change the rules, add bots (or simz), and 4 player co op challenges. This was and still is a suite of options unmatched by any game before or since.

Oh I agree with everything you said Fox. I never finsihed the campaign in Perfect Dark because... I dunno, I didn't like the alien stuff at the end but I did enjoy the multiplayer. Played it a bit then lent it to a friend never to see the game again... so I ended up playing way more Goldeneye multiplayer in the long run as there was no way I would ever lend out my copy to anyone.
