Only had time to do one of the endings (going o experience 2 now and the other 2 in my next playthrough of the series). I have to say it makes a lot more sense than the original ending and actually gives you a sense of closure. I just got this feeling they rushed the original ending to make the game's deadline and then released this to actually explain things. Also it pretty much crushes any truth towards the indoctrination theories floating around the web. All in all this was more like the game ending I expected.

I'm going to admit I downloaded the new endings and went back to my save only to find out that my galaxy readiness had dropped a ton and I still needed like 1000 points. I tried doing a couple side missions but it was hard for me to really care or get back into (I already saved the galaxy so saving one scientist or finding some ruin is kinda meaningless now.) Looking at a couple hours of side mission grinding or multiplayer grinding. I would also have had to play through the 2+ hour final mission and I am not even sure the save I was using was at the right point so it still might have been for nothing.

So I broke down and just watched all 4 endings online. It does give a bit more closure and fixes some of the plot holes the original ending had. I agree with Black this feels like the ending they should have done rather than the rushed slapped together ending we got.

The Indoctrination theory is not dead
Spoiler
The 4th ending if you refuse the voice of the starchild changes to harbinger. This ending with the beacon like the first game and Liara passing on the record of the loss to the next generation was really sad.

Saw the red ending last night. Staying away from the other two until my renegade playthrough of the series, which I plan on doing soon.

Started MGS3. Is it just me or do the controls feel dated? It's taking me a long time to get used to them.

I can't comment because I played MGS 3 right after I beat MGS 2 and it felt much improved. However, the first time I played it (before playing MGS 2), I hated the controls. It's just something you get used to along the way, and to be honest, I prefer MGS 3's control scheme over MGS 4's.

Problem for me is it's been roughly 10 years (probably a little less) since I've played MGS2 so I'm not used to the control scheme anymore. It's been about 3 years since I've played MGS4 but I don't remember having control issues with it. Just have to get used to it I guess. Gotten to used to 3rd person games from this gen I guess.

MGS4 has a completely different control scheme to MGS2 and 3, they definitely feel dated. Peace Walker controls more like MGS4 and is probably the best feeling game in the HD Collection.

Yeah, MGS 4 feels a lot more akin to today's standards (arguably much better), but oddly I prefer the older control. It takes some time getting used to for MGS 3's controls, but I really liked it and prefer it over MGS 4. But I still don't think I would adapt as easily had I not gone through MGS 1 and 2 before playing MGS 3.

Speaking of which, I'm replaying MGS 3 because I still have things I want to try out and I want to do it all looking good in a tuxedo. :confident: I'll probably stop once my ordered replacement PSP thumbstick comes in and I can play Portable Ops to finally lead into Peace Walker.

God I almost forgot how long-winded some cutscenes are in the MGS series... Don't get me wrong, I love the series, but you can't just pick up one of the games, play for an hour and then do something else as some of the cutscenes are just so freakin long that you don't even get a chance to PLAY the game! Considering most days I only have maybe an hour or two to game I might just play something else until I get more free time, like on a Saturday when I have no plans and my girlfriend is working or something. Just thinking back to playing through MGS4 taking up 3 days of vacation to watch all the cutscenes and beat the game, I just have a feeling MGS3 is very similar.

Don't worry, the only time when the cutscenes are very long are the beginning with the Virtuous Mission and the intro of Operation Snake Eater and the ending. Once you start taking down the Cobra Unit, the cutscenes are a lot shorter and the game's level of amazing jumps at the second half. Personally, my favorite story might be Snake Eater's, but that's my own personal opinion.

And by shorter, I mean standard MGS length, which is still long by any other game's standards.

I'm taking a break from Final Fantasy V on the GBA to play some Zelda: A Link To The Past. I have to say, after playing a little bit of Skyward Sword (and it's a great game imo), I still perfer the button-mashing Link over the motion-sensor Link.

I'm sure everyone knows this by now but I have a severe love-on for A Link to the Past. Even after all these years I try to replay that game at least once a year. If you like it and you own a PS3 do yourself a favour: Get 3D Dot Gameheroes. It's pretty much A Link to the Past clone but slightly more difficult and just pure awesome. I can say this with confidence it's the best Zelda game since the SNES.

Well, I know now that Mr. Black has a love affair for A Link to The Past. But it's okay, that game is great and deserves that kind of love. I would try 3D Dot Gamheroes, but I have a confession to make, I don't have a PS3.

Well if at any point you buy a PS3 pick up 3D Dot Gameheroes. It's super cheap now too. I think you can buy it for $15 and it's worth every penny.

Well since you suggested it, whenever I pick up a PS3, I'll pick it up.

I'm really glad 3D Dot Game Heroes is still easy to find. I was worried when it came out, that it's nature and it's publisher would make it one of those obscure impossible to find games.

It's getting harder to find up here in Canada, but when you find it it's usually anywhere between $15-$30. I got my copy on launch day and don't ever plan on getting rid of it. I think EB and Best Buy only offer $5 of trade credit for it, which should be criminal.

I looked everywhere for it, didn't find a copy of it in stores, so I finally just gave up and bought it on ebay. Paid $20 for a brand new copy.
