This thread is pretty hard to take seriously but I'd still like to throw my hat into the ring here since I'm bored and my dinner tastes like cardboard.

You mentioned in your article that you don't think fighting games require skill, that it's all a rock-paper-scissor thing.
The rock-paper-scissors thing is true but only to a small extent, I mean every character has a set of tools and they generally counter something the opponent's character can do. Almost everything can be made safe under the right conditions though and you have a lot more tools than just the three, you know, the rock, the paper and the scissors.
In a scenario with two good, not just pros but mid to high-mid level opponents facing each other they'll both know that. Hell, only extreme low level players throw out moves randomly to begin with. But yeah, then what? Is it all chance after that? How ever will you win if that random flying kick you memorized how to counter never actually comes?



Maybe the above is what happens. Maybe it comes down to outsmarting your opponent, getting in his head, forcing mistakes and predicting what they'll do and adapting to the opponent. Maybe, just maybe there's something in there about having your execution be top notch as well, after all, dropping a combo is just as bad as failing to hit an opponent in an FPS, in both cases you'll usually pay dearly for it.
Also, execution in a fighter is not about how many times you can repeatedly throw a shoryuken or whatever without messing up. Most important combos have very few frames for you to hit the next move and you need to at all times confirm that you are in fact not getting blocked so that you can change it up or if you're applying pressure to a blocking opponent you need to have the execution and reactions to quickly go into a combo in case his shell cracks and you score a hit or even a counter hit that you baited out.

In the end though I don't really care if you don't like fighting games or that you think they suck, there's lots of things I don't like as well. It's obvious to me that you have no understanding of the real meat and bones of these kinds of games however and it's a real shame. Writing an article about something you know only at face value is unprofessional and just plain wrong. It doesn't make you unbiased, it just makes you ignorant on the subject matter.
Of course, since I play and understand fighting games I guess I'm just biased though. Oh well.

Anyways...I absolutely suck at fighting games, I mean I am god awful...but I love to play them so much but in all honesty, I can really only play them about an hour a day due to me sucking so bad at them >.>

No, it's just a by-product of my arguing when the opposite argument is stupid. If you are being stupid I bring attention to that fact because that's what it is, a fact. I don’t feel the need to be nice and show respect to someone who I don’t believe deserves it.

I do both, cover all of my bases. This is how I argue in real life as well, just that in real life people usually are not bold or stupid enough to say something as stupid as you did. In the rare occasions that it does happen I will react the same way I do here, so long as the person isn’t able to kick my ass. If he or she is (all girls are able to kick my ass because I refuse to hit them, unless the balls are at stake, then it’s anyone’s game), then I will assess whether or not they are the type of person to actually become violent. Again, this is a rare occurrence because most of my acquaintances are much smarter than you and would never make such a broad sweeping statement about anything.

I like how the first half of this paragraph you were referring to me in the third person as to make it seem like you couldn’t read what I was saying, and here you just flat out address me in first. You’re right though, that insult was meant to make you look dumb, and I’ve been open about that. It’s also something I do in real life, when someone tries to act smarter than they are, I point out that they are indeed, not very smart. I don’t like people that take themselves seriously, and when they do I like to give them a reality check. Had you not started bringing up your philosophy professors and started sprinkling a few big words in a rather poorly written replies I may not have done that. But you began to sound like you felt you were better than everyone else here so I felt it was necessary. Yes I did get worked up, but you have to be careful with how you use that. If you define that as me becoming angry, then you’d be wrong. It’s more of a general belief that I have an obligation to right someone who is doing wrong, in this case it was your ridiculous article. I can disagree with plenty of people without insulting them, as I have been saying I only insult those who deserve it and really you and Maximo are the only two people that I have insulted on the boards. Coincidentally, you’re also the only two people that I’ve seen make incredibly stupid arguments/threads. You’ve already called me immature and mentioned how this showcases my “weakness”, but…. aren’t those insults? Weren’t you just making blind assumptions about my life in a negative way? My thread was not stupid and my arguments actually kicked ass. I made a stupid video about how I think it's silly that some people over the internet get all defensive and flame each other over what friggin video game system they prefer, that is all. I didn't want to argue because it was a plain and simple fact. I think the console wars are stupid and people should grow up. stop using me as an example of someone that had a stupid argument/thread because the way i see it, both of our arguments were pretty good and if anything you made yourself look like a jackass. With the stance that I took by making the video and stating that the console wars are stupid, it's really not something that warrants pages and pages of arguments and of course let's not forget, your famous posts.

so really if you think about it, I gave out my opinion and you bitched me out for it, and even as I tried to explain to you why I will always stick to my guns when I say that the console wars are gay fuck stupid, you still write and say that my arguments are dumb, even though I backed them up with very good reasons where as you just focused on trying to debunk everything I said and the only way you could is by once again, going for these petty insults.
