Not to make a spin-off of the drop topic, since I only post in there, but...

I'm curious as to how much people here spend on comics a week. Honestly. Also, if you pirate comics, nobody is going to judge you, so feel free to mention how many comics you actually buy in comparison to how many comics you download.

Personally, I don't pirate shit unless it's old. I try to buy single issues if I can, and if the series sucks, I try to find them at Comic Cons for a buck a piece.

I spend something like... 150 bucks a month on comics. Which is pretty ridiculous to me. Ideally, I'd LOVE to be in the 100 dollar a month region, but that would involve a LOT of dropping and less opportunity for me to explore new series/limiteds.

So, normally, when do you guys jump off a comic for purchasing, is it price point, writers, storylines, upcoming arcs, artists?

Personally, I've decided to bail out on Deadpool as much as possible. Not 100%, but I don't need to be buying 5 different Deadpool titles a month, especially when most of it is average at best, with the occasional gem here and there.

I spend somewhere between 30 and 130 dollars a month on comics. It's not a very specific number, I know; my spending habits go up and down a lot depending on what mood I'm in, and how much time I have to actually read the stuff I buy. I don't have any scheduled monthly purchases, since I usually get TPBs or Special Editions. But whenever I visit my comic book store I end up buying something on impulse, even if I'm really just there to waste an hour talking to my comic book guy.

I don't get floppies. Full stop.

I also gave up caring about the capes ages ago, so it's strictly collections and sometimes manga. I'd wager maybe 30-40 USD any given month.

usually just wait for trades because I tend to be a completist about it and missing even one monthly in an ongoing series drives me insane (plus they tend to be cheaper and look nicer on my bookshelf)

depends on the month, but anywhere from $20-$100

We don't use slurs on these forums. :rabbid:

TPB usually seems the route to go, but due to the nature of our podcast, and the fact I hate feeling left behind that wouldn't be the route to go for me. Sure, I could pirate them and then buy the trades if I like the stories, but even then, since I don't have a GOOD portable electronic reading device, I wouldn't want to sit at home and read comics. I do most of my reading during my work lunch break or on the bus to and from work.

EDIT: Currently working to get my monthly spending down to 30 bucks a week, maybe 40 if it's a heavy week.

Why don't you claim it as a biz expense and use it as a tax right off or get a hookup with Marvel, DC, or at least some indie publishers so that they send you free stuff

I've thought about it, but here's what I've learned:

- As far as I know, I can't use it as a business expense since we have technically made any real income or anything. If anybody knows anything more about this, please let us know!

- Marvel sends out PDFs of the comics they want you to read/review, and I'm not sure if DC even does that.

As for Indie Publishers, maybe they'd send me their stuff, but chances are they would also want me to pay for it. We did a lot of interviews at ComicCon and nobody was like "Hey, here are some free copies of our stuff." Then again, we never asked, but I assumed if they wanted people to read their stuff and/or get more exposure they'd hook us up with free stuff. :)

It all depends on how busy the month is, but I spend in the area of $200 a month. That's factoring in variants, back issues, trades and supplies (bags, boards etc.). I rarely have a week where it isn't at least $50.

As I said in the other thread, I'll stick with a book unless it goes through a drastic change in tone with a new team. I'm kind of burnt out on Deadpool myself and with Merc with a Mouth being done, I'm just going to pick up the main book.
