If you could only buy 5 series....

With my wedding just around the corner I fully expect to be hardcore dropping titles from my purchasing list. I've done my best to be an "upstanding citizen" when it comes to comics, and most likely a lot of things will still be read... just not purchased. However, it got me thinking what comics would you keep and what comics would you not be getting anymore if you had to limit yourself to 5 series (not counting limiteds.)

Off the top of my head at this current moment in time it would be:

Avengers Academy
Thunderbolts
Batgirl
Black Panther
Amazing Spider-Man

Morning Glories would most likely be purchased only in TPBs.

There are tons of other great comics out there, but all those really stick out far above the rest of the competition. A lot of which I can't properly gauge on the DC side since... well, all those series are ending real soon and/or relaunching. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have ANY majorly hard decisions if I raised my list to "10".

But, enough about me, what 5 series would you pick? What would you switch to only reading in TPB as opposed to monthly if you had to?

Ok this is gonna be really hard, but I'll go with:

Amazing Spider-Man
Green Lantern
Booster Gold
Avengers Academy
Scott Synder Batman Detective/Soon to be Batman

There are so many other books I would have to pick up in trades, Morning Glories, Invincible, Walking Dead, Unwritten, and all the other superhero books I read like all the other Bat fam books, Supes books, GL books, X-Men books, Iron Man, fucking everything lol. It was so hard to pick just 5, but I tried to pick ones that were not connected to other family books as much, other than GL, but how can I go months without at least one GL book!?!?!?

Yeah, it would start over after arcs, the breaks have always been short:

April 2003 - August 2004
(Volume 2)
February 2005 - June 2008
(Volume 3)
August 2008 - November 2009

No new Runaways since late 09 and no news for a new run on the horizon so far.

yeah, they put Runaways on infinite hiatus, so much that they didn't even involve them in Youth in Revolt, which is pretty much ALL the young Marvel heroes in an event book (except the Young Avengers I guess.)

There's been multiple requests to involve those characters in current stories (IE. Avengers Academy) but due to the cliffhanger nature of that last 6 issue volume... well... yeah, they've got their hands tied until they resolve it or just ignore it. I'm not sure WHY they stopped and WHY they haven't resumed, but... there you have it.

That being said, I strongly suggest you read Iron Man Legacy, because (specifically in the 2nd TPB) it focuses on Iron Man vs. The Pride, back before the Runaways stories even started, and it's awesome shit.

I really wanted to work a Marvel book into this list like Iron Man or Secret Avengers but I just can't account for where they will be by the fall, while I'm fairly certain I would enjoy all of these.

My list was right now and not taking into account anything from the fall and where everyone will be. I'm sure if you ask me this question in Oct/Nov I will prob have a different answer.

I don't think I can come up with a proper list of five but I would absolutely keep Avengers Academy. I haven't read an issue yet that didn't impress me in some way or other. Excellent book.

This is a tough one and it'll probably change come September/October. However, as it stands:

Birds of Prey (although I'm pretty sure it just ended)
Moon Knight

I'd probably still read a lot of stuff in trade. Currently my pull list is somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-22 titles :serious:
