Grand Theft Auto III? Oh, really...

GTA3 was one of the main reasons that I had to get a PS2. My friend had one and a copy of Final Fantasy X along with GTA3. When he showed it to me and I started playing the game, I just knew that I had to have the game.

Like every player, the ability to go around and do anything that I wanted really drew me into it. I think I spent the first day or two just driving around and causing mayhem. However, that became rather boring. So, I got into the story, the missions and the side quests. And that became even more addictive. Each one was so much fun and so exciting that I could not get enough of this story.

The gun controls are a bit primitive, but they really don't hinder the game too much. It's more about driving and other aspects of the game. The later games are more focus on the gunplay while the first one is much more driving based.

I completed this game as I got a 100% completion on it. It was that much fun that I had to do everything in it. Some of the missions were a pain especially the final off road one, but overall, it was incredibly enjoyable and so much fun to play. I think it is one of the best games on the PS2.

Mario Land 2 on Gamboy. I played the shit out of this game as a kid. Tonnes of secrets in this game and I made it my goal to find every one on multiple road trips. This game and Link's Awakening were my go-to Gameboy games growing up.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeah, Mario Land Dos was the bomb. Loved that rabbit power up, the robot Mario world, all the little weirdness sprinkled thoughout. It is bliss. That and Kirby's Dreamland 2 were the best.

They brought back the Tanooki suit in Super Mario Land 3D, do you think that they will ever bring back the Bunny powerup?

Doubtful, but with Nintendo you never know. Mario Land 1 & 2 is more obscure titles in the franchise that Nintendo doesn't seem to show much love for. I love them to death, but they're probably some of the least popular Mario games out there, which is sad.

You know, I really don't see how they could be the least popular games out there. I LOVED Super Mario Land 2 because of all the crazy powerups, unique worlds, and goofy looking enemies (Thanks for showing some love to the Jason-masked Goomba, Tom). It was an absolute fun game to play, and while it really doesn't compare to the other Mario game that came out during that time, it was really good for the platform that it was designed for. Super Mario Land 1 wasn't so great, but then again, it was the first portable Mario game, and for that I do cut them some slack.

Yeah the Mario Land series is an odd one. The first game felt a lot like Mario 1 but shorter and easier. 2 really shined with its bigger graphics and variety of different worlds. But I really loved 3/Warioland, it took the series in a different direction with new power ups and loads of secrets.

Then Super Mario 3D Land came along it ignored all the previous gameboy games and was a mix of 64, Galaxy, and SMB3. What a weird series.

I think it's because the producer in control of the Mario games usually looks to the games he's worked on for inspiration. For example, he didn't work on Mario 2, therefore we never really see stuff from that game pop up again. But he worked on all the major games since Super Mario Bros. 1 ... I don't think he worked on the gameboy games either, so that could be why we don't see that stuff.

If Miyamoto was directing another Mario game (which I doubt will happen any time soon) we could see these elements again (and radically new ones, I'm sure) ... but, otherwise, unless someone else is in control of the franchise, it's unlikely.

Glad to hear Tom's enjoying Mario Land 2, but I challenge him to find EVERYTHING in that game! That will make it longer for you!

For this week's retro game, Punch Out, pure awesome! Probably in my top 5 favorite NES games that I consistently play. Super Punch Out's also kick-ass. I haven't played the Wii version yet, with with it being only $20 now I'm sure I'll get it in the very near future.

As for whatever Tony Hawk game they're talking about for next week, I haven't played a game in the series past 2. I enjoyed the first two games but it just looked like more of the same with all the sequels so I just lost interest.

Punch Out is a legend. It's a very addictive game that keeps you coming back for more. I didn't play much of Super Punch Out to form an opinion on the game. I remember a SNES game called George Foreman's KO boxing (I think) that kinda resembles Punch Out, and it was pretty good game.

As for Tony Hawk games, the last one that I played was Tony Hawk's Underground, and I haven't played anymore games since.

While American Wasteland isn't my favorite Tony Hawk game, I still enjoy it. This game does have one important feature that the new Pro Skater HD is missing, split screen. What the fuck Activision, I have friends in real life you know.
